We've all had sunburn and yeah, it's annoying. Sometimes you get just enough to slightly burn your skin, making it itchy and sore for a few days. Then there's those times you got scorched and you were sore as could be for more than a week. Well, it's just not healthy for your body and we're here to give you some good advice on ways to both avoid and treat it.

Now the sun's rays are at their strongest between 10am and 4pm, so if you're going to be outside during that time, you need to be prepared. First off, you'll need to apply sunscreen before going out. Wearing SPF 30 or greater is recommended. Unfortunately, people in general apply only around one-third the amount dictated by the label. And you want to make sure it's water resistant for either 40 or 80 minutes and of course, re-apply when needed.

The bottom line is that sunburn is caused by over exposure to UV rays. So, the first thing you want to do when out for the day is to seek the shade as much as possible. Make sure to wear a hat with a brim that will shield your face and neck from over exposure. And of course, good sunglasses will keep your eyes protected from the UV rays.

Heal Your Sunburn Faster – Your body needs time to replace the skin that was burnt and damaged. But you can help the healing process move along faster by doing a few helpful things. Getting a lot of sleep helps you to manage inflammation while helping your body to heal itself. Aloe Vera is good to apply as it reduces inflammation and moisturizes your skin while preventing peeling. Take a cool bath to soothe your irritated skin says the American Academy of Dermatology. You want to stay hydrated – While sunburn draws moisture from your skin, keeping yourself hydrated helps your skin do the same. Take an Oatmeal Bath – If you really want to soothe your irritated skin, we recommend an oatmeal bath that's super easy to make. You can either purchase one at your local supermarket, or you can make one yourself by filling the tub with cool water and mixing in a cup of oats along with a few of tablespoons of baking soda.
